After researching our last article on decompression sickness, I stumbled over a rather disturbing image of a deceased diver that carries with it a harsh warning for those pushing their depth limits. Warning: This article contains images people may find disturbing.
I discovered a neat blog called ScubaGeek who had posted about The Deadly Lure of the Deep, a stark reminder of the dangers of pushing the limits of how deep you can dive. Pushing the limits of how deep you can go can quite likely end up in disaster, which this anonymous diver learnt the hard way. Dead Diver Gear
If you look closely at this image, you can see a tank, BCD, regulator and dive slates. All of this was found at the somewhat silly depth of 112m (370ft), with the weight belt being a further 20 feet down. The body has long since decomposed, but the ghostly image of the remaining dive gear should be imprinted on your retinas: diving is safe until you start making bad choices. Have you had a close call diving? Tell us about it in the Scuba Diving Stories forum. |
