Aqua Lung America has announced a voluntary recall of their Apeks Regulator and has asked consumers to stop using the recalled products immediately after admitting there may be a "drowning hazard" to divers.

Apeks Regulators

The recall was announced in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, after it was found that some of the regulators could be missing the diaphragm cover which can cause the regulator's diaphragm to become dislodged during a dive, which can pose a threat to divers.

Name of product: Apeks Second Stage Scuba Regulators

Units: About 25,000

Distributor: Aqua Lung America of Vista, Calif.

Manufacturer: Apeks Marine Equipment Ltd., of Blackburn, England

While this regulator has caused no injuries or accidents, all owners of non-serviced Apeks TX, ATX, and XTX second stage regulators are advised to immediately stop diving with these regulators and take them into an Apeks authorized dealer for a free inspection and installation of diapragm cover, if necessary.

This range of regulators has been on sale from February 2000 to June 2008 for between $420 and $1,450.
