To be a 'dive monkey' you'll need at least a HSE Pt4/Scuba.
A Rescue Diver allows you to assist be an RD for an Instructor.
A DM allows you to escort divers, assist an instructor, collect shellfish, act on film underwater or be involved in an UW archaeological project.
Everything else you need a HSE qualification of some kind. Including scraping the bottom of boats.
