I was wondering if anybody has done any diving in Cuba? If so, do you have any recommendations? Also, as A PADI OW diver, will this cause any problems as there are no PADI dive centres out there?

My first sea dives were in Cuba. Was choppy and there was a big problem with jelly fish, but I still got hooked.

I did the Easy Diver SNSI course, but I think they will still accept if you PADI qualified. The instructor I had was very good and I was his only student. I can't say I saw a lot, but I think I wasn't there at the best time of year as I caught the end of a hurricane the watter was all stirred up.

I used the Blue Diving center at the hotel I stayed in Cayo Coco and would definitely recommend them.

Cuba was great, I did dual havana and Cayo Coco. If you go to havana make sure you stop into the Nacional hotel de cuba for a mojito.

The wild life on land in Cayo Coco was great though. lots of humming birds, anole lizards, crabs, frogs and we even saw a snake (they're non venomous)

if you're looking to dive in cuba, it might be worth taking a look at: www.surfacewatch.com/divesites/caribbean/cuba.html

If you are going in January/Feb, then you're probably looking at a water temp of between 23c - 25c. In terms of the visibility, that'll depend on the dive site(s) you dive at.

There are plenty of dive centres and tour operators around Cuba, the people are very friendly but some of the scuba equipment is a little dated so make sure you check it out before hiring kit.
