Has anyone here ever stepped into a shark cage? Shark diving is quite popular in these parts. Has anyone done this and what was your impression of the dive?

Do great white sharks ever attack small boats? That would ruin a tea party :'(

I heard it is important to carry a spare oxygen tank when going for long dives, could anyone help me out on this?

Have never done the shark cage thing but before they outlawed it here I have done the open water shark dives several times. They used a bait ball to attract the sharks and we settled on the bottom to enjoy the action. When surfacing we generally surface a little out of the direct area and where picked up buy the boat. Real awesome to watch. Just bulls, black tips, an occasional hammer and reef sharks, no whites.

Wow, that sounds amazing Did you get any pictures? Were you a tad nervous at all?

I have always wanted to do a decent shark dive! I was trying for basking sharks last year but they shifted their feeding patterns and funny enough were in the area this year when i couldn't get out! I only seen lesser spotted dogfish, which are really common round the UK

Actually it was a pretty cool dive. I took 2 groups over to the east coast of Fl. twice before they outlawed them here in Florida.
The first time it was just a bunch of divers looking for a little more excitement in there dives. The second time it included a few who where trying to overcome thier fears of sharks. I do have pictures if you would like me to post them. I spear fish often so I have learned not to let them bother me. You generally will not see them but you know they are always there somewhere. They are an awesome creature to see in the water. I worry more about the barracuda, they are faster inquisitive and fearless.
