Should I buy diving insurance?

When is it good to buy diving insurance, and how much should I expect to pay?

Absolutely!

If you haven't already, always make sure you get a Divers Alert Network (DAN) Membership - (www.daneurope.org/eng/english_.htm), look at the "insurance benefits" page, the link is on the left. DAN basically covers you for accidents. For £50 a year you get excellent cover which includes low-level flights to deco centres. Their website is cack and hard to use, but stick with it - for £50 it's a good price to gamble with your life!

For the actual trip, I used ScubaSure (www.scubasure.com/) and I gave them a forum because of the treatment I received. Basically, I booked a £900 liveaboard trip to Egypt through Oonasdivers and got cover with ScubaSure. A few days before I had to go, I got an absolutely stinking cold, so there was no way I was going to be able to dive. Scubasure very promptly sorted me out with a refund (minus I think it was about £50 excess) - not only that they send me a nice big bottle of absolut Vodka as a get well present! ScubaSure to me, were incredibly helpful and getting my money back was a doddle. From my personal experience, I'd highly recommend them.

I can't remember exactly how much insurance from ScubaSure was, but it wasn't a lot, maybe £20-30. If you pop into their forum and let them know what you require, I'm sure they'll give you a rough price. Our member CharlieP works there

Aww - thanks for the praise!! I try my best!

I can indeed help out with travel insurance! We do an annual policy if you travel a lot or single trip policies.

The policies are tailored to divers and cover all the usual travel stuff (cancellation, belongings) along with specialist treatment cover such as hyperbaric chamber treatment.

If you would like a quote you can either tell me what you are after or check out www.scubasure.co.uk!
